I purchased this for my grandson’s birthday (age 11), after consulting with his dad about what he already had, wanted, or was allowed to have. Harry Potter was at the top of the list. He has a Wii, and does video games more with the TV than the computer.

I have played every Harry Potter game in the series and loved all of them. The puzzles, quests and mini games always made for exciting and extensive game play. Unfortunately, that enthusiasm does not extend to Harry and Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I was disappointed in the length of the story line – most likely less than 4 hours of gameplay. The side quests were to complete the Dueling Club, Potions Club and Flying Club. You also could collect crests throughout the castle – no beans, no cards, no gobstone matches, etc. The only story tasks that were completed were to fly in a few quidditch games, get attacked by a few of Malfoy’s cronies and duel with the real bad guys – which was super easy! Navigation was disappointing as well. You could not pull up the Marauder’s Map and see where you were or where you wanted to go. You had to call up Nearly Headless Nick and have him lead you. This game was definitely a waste of money and I will surely think twice before purchasing the next installment.

I rented this (thankfully I didn’t buy it) for my Wii. Before now I have played all of the HP games on my computer and I loved them all. So keep in mind that I am reviewing the Wii version of this sixth game, because the PC one looks a lot better.
Basically you walk around Hogwarts reliving the movie – the game is probably 60 percent (at least) cut scenes, which gets VERY boring and at times irritating. Other than that, you do a bunch of mini-games like potion making and dueling. These are fun but if I wanted to play mini-games I wouldn’t have bought HP. Like all the previous games, I expect an adventure game not a bunch of mini-games.
Rather than play this I would go see the movie. The cutscenes are just too many and the game did not leave me satisfied. I would go buy the PC/MAC version it looks way better! As with the previous games I played on PC and enjoyed them all, but this sixth one for Wii left me wanting something better.
